Logo Dragonfly

Why Dragonfly? Well my description of a Whippet is an "art nouveau" dog (all curves, no angles) as one could say that a Wire Fox Terrier would be "art deco". The famous Tiffany glass had a dragonfly as its logo and many Majorelle pieces had dragonflies on them. If you observe a whippet running it is very similar to the flight of a dragonfly capable of making sharp turns in any direction. A childhood love marked my destiny. He was a lovely black greyhound named Cloud who belonged to friends of my parents, we became the best of playmates. When my father was transferred to Baltimore I was so heartbroken that on my eighth birthday he gave me "Derwich" my first afghan, a show dog. It was then I told him that when I grew up I would breed greyhounds and whippets, live in the country, become a professional handler and afterwards a judge. And that is exactly what happened.

While my father was an ambassador to Japan I became one of the founders of the Japan SPCA. Upon my return to the States I married. My husbands hobby was hunting, so he gave me a Weimaraner for my birthday. Ch Huntmasters Buzz Bomb was a son of Ch Von Gaiberg's Aalto bred by Homer Carr.
I finished him as well as many of his get and his call name "Attila" became our prefix.
During this time I apprentised under the wellkown handler Ben Brown and became the last woman to be licensed by the AKC as an all breed handler.

When we moved to Hidden hills, California, we had lots more room so we started breeding American Saddlebred horses as well as Weimaraners.
It was in 1963 that I bought my first whippet an english import "Gypsy" Am Arg.Int. Gr Ch. Attila's Dragonfly Gypsy, who became my foundation bitch and from then on Dragonfly would be my kennel name. Gypsy was linebred to Ch. Wingedfoot Marksman of Allways. I bred her to EngAmCh Courtenays Fleetfoot of Pennyworth 1964 BIS Winner at Westminster.
In her first litter she produced five champions out of a litter of six. I kept two dogs Dragonfly's Wingedfoot and Dragonfly's Fleetfoot. Then I imported from England Gigi of Test mated to Ch. Ladiesfield Bedazzled, kept their daughter. Dragonfly's Eveningstar (who later became the foundation bitch of Westgate Kennels) who bred to Wingedfoot produced Dragonfly's April Eveningstar. My first all American bred whippet was Falotico's Galatea.
Later I purchased my first greyhound, Vulcan's Dragonfly Sundance (a Royaltan grandson) Sonny became the top greyhound in California.
In 1972 I moved to Argentina accompanied by Gypsy, her two sons, Wing and Flee, grandson Star, Gigi and Galatea and started my breeding program all over again. And naturally Sonny who became the founder of most greyhounds in Argentina and Brazil. In subsequent years few but very important dogs were incorporated into my breeding program: Ch.Moorlands Gainesborough, Ch. Indio of Roberjos, Ch. Pennyworth Shimmering Gold, Ch. Noholmes Beau Zam, Ch. Sporting Fields Split Decision each of them made their contribution and combined well with my old bloodlines keeping the Dragonfly characteristics, lovely large expressive eyes, soundness of movement, substance with elegance seen in our whippets today.
With love and dedication Dragonfly has bred over 180 champions mainly whippets but also afghans, greyhounds, salukis and weimaraners. For 25 years our whippets have been awarded #1 whippet of the year, many years top sighthound and in the top 20 allbreeds.
